AVASILICHIOAEI, Oana: Abandon
AVASILICHIOAEI, Oana. Abandon. Toronto: Wolsak and Wynn, 2005. First Edition. 8vo. Perfect bound into Wrappers. New. ISBN: 1894987055. 77 pp. You will be startled into remembering what the birthright of poetry is when you read Abandon. Like her aunt, who "tended a fire all night/as the bear circled her campsight," Avasilichioaei candles us through eight centuries of the ruins of her country of origin, Romania. As a Canadian poet, she not only searches for her "own mythology, " in her return visit to Romania and her preoccupation with its fabled illegitimate daughter of Stephen the Great, but she also exposes the collective narrative we have created as a self-destructing world forgetting itself: "on this stage there are no actors/just puppets hanging with no puppeteers." $15.00. AVASILICHIOAEI, Oana: Limbinal /with translations of Paul Celan
AVASILICHIOAEI, Oana. Limbinal /with translations of Paul Celan. Vancouver: Talonbooks, 2015. First Edition. 203x140mm. Trade Paperback. New. 128pp. Limbinal, as its hybrid title suggests, speaks in the porous space between a limb's articulations and a liminal border. Formally diverse, the pieces in Limbinal intersect prose fragments with incantatory dialogues, poetic footnotes with photographic phrases, rebellious translations with liquid transpositions. || Against a backdrop of globalization fantasies heralding the new utopia, the fallout of nationalistic impulses, conflicts repeatedly arising out of rigid entrenchment, and the increasingly hazy distinction between public and private, voices struggle to cross, to intersect, to overlap. It is the permeable spaces arising between these voices that matter. Here, linguistic limbs fold and migrate, a distant border politicks and trips over the horizon, a river overflows, floods, palimpsests another river, Arendt’s responsibility touches Deleuze’s fold, the body, changeable, restless, searches for resonances. || New translations of Paul Celan’s Romanian poems become a generative field of language that sprout other limbs and broach other thresholds. A voice intimately addresses the border while multilingual subjectivities tackle radical responses. So the mouth, possibly hungering, possibly melodic, is always present, ready to disarticulate in order to articulate before the city gates, wobbly with struggle.

AVASILICHIOAEI, Oana; CARR, Angela; MAJZELS, Robert, MOURE, Erin: Translating Translating Montreal
AVASILICHIOAEI, Oana; CARR, Angela; MAJZELS, Robert, MOURE, Erin. Translating Translating Montreal. Montreal: Press Dust, 2007. First Edition. 8vo. Perfect bound into Wrappers. New. 76pp. Perhaps, in an act of translation the edges of the self give way as they do in love. The movement of sense arises from the rhythm of the pieces as a whole, and to transmit this movement is fidelity. Hence "transinhalation" -- withdrawl, restraint, intake of breath -- seeks rather to make room for the Other. Thus writing is fostered in an open space of crossings where not one author stands alone but is multiplied, where "original" ceases to have its simplistic meaning, where texts begin to generate not only other texts but their own authors, where the I, no longer transparent, is liberated from itself.
