January 22, 2006 - O Spamada? FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Canadian spam poet Rob Read hits Buffalo and Philadelphia Canada's newest export to the United States is Daily Treated Spam. For nearly three years, Canadian poet Rob Read has been modifying his junk e-mail into poetry, and sending it out to a growing list of recipients, many of whom are in the United States. A selection of the very best Daily Treated Spam have recently been published as O Spam, Poams, by independent press BookThug. Read's 'invasion' via spam has already been commented on by poet and literary critic Ron Silliman, who wrote a praise filled entry on his blog about Daily Treated Spam, including his plea to keep the spam coming, despite the mass success of O Spam, Poams. Read's work is also featured in the new anthology of Canadian poets Shift & Switch, called the best book of 2005 by Canadian novelist Natalee Caple, which collects the work of 41 bright new voices in Canadian poetry. Shift & Switch is being released through a number of launch parties across Canada, as well as launches in Buffalo on January 27th, at 7:00 pm at Rust Belt Books and Philadelphia on January 28th at 7:00 pm at the Khyber Bar. Read will read from O Spam, Poams at both these events, as well as on a return visit to Buffalo on February 23rd, at 7:00 pm at the Big Orbit Gallery. Read will also read at the Lake Forest Literary Festival in Chicago in April. Of course, Read keeps sending new Daily Treated Spam every day, and maintains his popular website www.dailytreatedspam.com - a parody of make-money-quick websites - where people sign-up to receive Daily Treated Spam. "As long as there is spam, there will be Daily Treated Spam," says Read. And anyone who uses e-mail at all can tell you that the end doesn't seem to be in sight. Contact
